Mother Jesu Emmanuel rings Nonnatus House to inform Sister Julienne that Mother Felicity, who helped run Hope Clinic, a tiny mission hospital in Apartheid-era South Africa, has passed away and the clinic is threatened with closure due to lack of staff. ![]() When the only doctor at the clinic is taken ill, things become gravely serious. The nuns and midwives of Nonnatus House travel to South Africa to save a struggling mission hospital for closure, but there they encounter prejudice from the local authorities, and have to deal with an unhygienic water supply that is running dangerously low.
